In my daily 10-team espn roto pool (where at least 3 teams are on auto-pilot), I offered the Chara half of this deal for my archrival's Luongo. Stategories are Wins, GAA, Sv%, G, A, +/-, PP+SH pts, DEF (2xG+A) pts, PIM, SOG.
I'm battling my archrival and one other team for the lead, and expect to do so right till the bitter end. I'm leading the league in Wins, G and PIM semi-comfortably, and can afford to slip a little in each if other categories pick up. I want quick jumps in SV%, +/-, PP+SH, while protecting SOG. The other categories are ok at the moment.
My team:
Niitty Maki and Kiprusoff, Garon and Grahame (G)
P.Bergeron, Hemsky, Prucha, G.Murray [should be a Flame], S.Gagne, Svatos, E.Staal, R.Nash, Cheechoo, Datsyuk, S.Walker on IR (F)
Meszaros, Chara, S.Salo, J.Spacek, K.Johnsson, J.Modry, J.Heward (D)
His team:
Nabokov, Luongo, Lundqvist, Lehtonen on IR (G)
Forsberg, Hossa the Thrasher, B.Richards, Spezza, Stoll, Conroy, Weight, M.Savard, Ja.Williams, O'Neill (F)
McCabe, M-A.Bergeron, Zidlicky, R.Blake, Corvo, Kubina, B.Berard, S.Niedermayer (D)
We start 2 Gs, 9 Fs, 5 Ds, 1 Util (F/D) each day. There are game limits by position, and I'm trending high on D, as is he.
His first comeback was: Chara only helps him in +/- and PIMs [sic]; Luongo is going to Colorado or Vancouver, so he's undervalued now; he wants S.Gagne or R.Nash.
Do I raise the bet, and offer Chara/Nash for Luongo/Spezza?
A) Was my original offer wrong?
B) Is my counter-offer wrong?
Merry Boxing Day to all,
Steffen

my first thought was that your original offer was too much and i still think it was too much. can't believe he rejected actually. i don't see how Berard could continue to be a +/- millstone and don't see why you'd want to go after him.
i like your counter for you but i doubt he'd take that. like many i'm nervous about Nash's durability although Spezza has been a little dinged up of late too. i don't think this will fly but you can certainly try.

I just countered with my R.Nash/Chara for his McCabe/Luongo.
--edit
If Luongo does indeed get traded, he starts adding Wins to his stellar SV%, and I can move a lesser goalie for something.

this deal is fine but you make some assumptions that may just blow up in your face. if FLA doesn't move Luongo then you'll definitely lose this deal and if Nash stays healthy you lose this deal. i'm really seeing penalty killing forwards playing right on top of McCabe over the last month or so and if he doesn't score on the PP then his stats go down a good chunk.
youre taking a chance if you ask me but the deal looks ok.

Ian, I agree with you on all counts.
I don't really need Luongo to be traded for me to be happy with the deal, but a reduction in McCabe's PP production would certainly annoy me.
I am taking a chance with this deal, but this would be the first trade of the season by anyone in this pool, and I can't figure out how else to trade my strengths for my needs. (I'm running away with Gs and Wins, even before Nash came back.)
The FA pile is pretty deep due to snoozing competition (Turgeon, for example, is currently available), so minor tweaks are available that way, but I hate to just toss away my boys via waivers.
So, I'm leaving the offer on the table until I see my archrival in Vancouver next week. Maybe he'll sweeten the deal for a World Juniors game...
