1) mike napoli and jarrod salty are free agents in my league and my catcher michael barrett hasnt really done anything, and since hes now playing in petco hes not gonna get any better. which of these catchers will have the most value for the rest of the season?

2) im thinking about offering rafael furcal and octavio dotel for jhonny peralta, furcal has been completely useless and it seems like hes not going to have his awesome 2nd half that he usually does because hes playing hurt. i already have jj putz and david weathers as closers, and i would probably pick up carlos marmol if i did the trade. do you guys think i should do it? thanks

I like Barrett most of those 3 catchers, his HR might go down a little at Petco, but he will bat in a good RBI slot, and hit for average, plus play more than Salt.  I think you are better off holding onto Furcal than making the Peralta deal, though if you can get Guillen I have no problems with you making the trade.

Just keep furcal- i realize he isnt running as much since turning his ankle in spring training, but he is still an excellent second half player, if you trade him now you are selling low, and buying high on peralta.  Remember that bad first half does not mean a bad season.  Last year furcal got off to a much MUCH slower start in the first compared to this year and he really heated up after the allstar break and had a career year.

If you have to make a trade, go for guillen, peralta has played better this year after getting off season lasik, but you have to go after guillen first.

As for your catcher situation, if you need homers, go with napoli, otherwise go with saltalamacchia.  Saltalamacchia will only get you 150 at bats compared to 250 from barret.  I dont think barret will hit in the 5 hole all year

if you're still looking at this today...

guillen hands down.

i gotta give the edge to napoli, meaning one vote for each of the three. now if you just need BA and a touch of power then salty's fine too, but i think the Halos offense will continue to be the most productive and give napoli the better runs and ribby numbers, while still diong well in HRs and not killing BA so long as you don't expect it to improve much as the year winds on... but i hope you ave a DL spot for him for now?
