I am a hockey fan first and a baseball fan second, the two seasons just fit together perfectly. I am Commish in a couple of hockey leagues and I definitely know the game. I look forward to seeing some posts coming in and I am confident that Pete will make sure that there will be some entertaining hockey columnists on the site.As a side note, who do you guys think will win the World Cup? I liked Canada initially but their Defense is looking rather porous now. I still think they will pull out a win but it is going to be difficult to get past the US and Sweden.Save a horse, ride a cowboy

RE: I wonder...

Welcome aboard xm! There will be a crucial meeting at the deadline of September 15th in which they can then agree to something or agree to disagree and play a half season starting in January. This a fight not all owners want to fight and in that we will see how unified they will be through it all. I am slightly pro-owner but i see a steely resolve amongst the top players to ensure the union remains strong. Its often the guys with little service time or little window of opportunity who suffer in cases like this. It dissappoints me considerably.Dallas have 1 timeout left there are 35 seconds to play and i run out of bounds on second down. I believe he can opt out of it at any time... I agree Mulder; the NHL isn't the most popular sport to begin with. Lindros and Thornton (and Demitra come to think of it) are all centers...so that wouldn't really address the "I've got nobody left to play with" attitude that Thornton was originally rumoured to have to get out of Beantown. They'd be best to go after Bondra or some similar wingers... Or they could just swallow their pride and bring Murray back - although he is being a little ridiculous in what he wants...I predict that the NHL is going to end up signing a temporary CBA much like baseball did with a phased in system. It won't answer all the issues right off but it will provide both sides with some of their demands and at least will keep hockey going...I think they both realize the NHL probably wouldn't survive a lengthy lockout. Fans are pissed as it is already...I've heard through the grapevine that it's really just a small percentage of the players that are being sticklers about holding out. I really think the majority of them just want to play.I'll tell you one thing... I'm getting really tired of having to put "(if there is a season)" in brackets after everything I type hockey related. Won't miss that at all!

RE: I wonder...

Demitra isn't exactly the model of durabalitly either. As a B's fan, we've had a horrible offseason, losing Murray, Rolston, O'Donnell, Knuble, etc. But Lindros the gimp? Horrible.
