This is my first year in a Yahoo league, so I'll be using those standards for my weekend picks. After all, we can't pick Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson every week. :-)

Group A:

Jeff Gordon - If there's a week to sit Jeff, this might be it. In the last 5 years, he's only earned 3 top 10s and 0 top 5s in 8 races with 2 DNFs. He's on enough of a hot streak where anything is possible, but I look for him to cool a little and there are enough other good choices out there.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. - Some big improvement with a good showing at Talladega and I think he'll improve more this week. 5 year split shows 4 top fives and 2 wins at Richmond. I like Earnhardt for a top 5 this week.

Kevin Harvick - Ups and downs since Daytona, but this could be a big week for him. 5 top 10s, 3 top 5s with a win at Richmond. He's been up and down, but two straight top 10s could mean a top 5 could be coming as soon as this week.

Tony Stewart - That breakthrough has got to be coming one of these weeks. Pattern is that he follows a bad race with a top 5. This would be a top 5 week, so he could be a good flyer. A bit inconsistant recently...

Group B:

Kyle Busch - The guy has flat out torn up this track. 4 races, 4 top 5s. However, I doubt he'll maintain a perfect record for the rest of his life. He looked very shaky at Talladega after his spectacular crash on Saturday and then got into another wreck. It's possible he could be mentally unprepared for a big run. I would roster him and then see what happens in practice and the Busch series race. If he crashes again, I'd probably look for an option elsewhere.

Denny Hamlin - Sample size might be too small, but he has a pole and a top 5 here. And he's been performing well, so you can expect more good stuff from him.

Mark Martin - He's a good bet in any race he runs. The splits back that up as well with 4 top 10s and 3 top 5s at Richmond. Start him with confidence.

Ryan Newman - I was impressed by Newman's top 10 this week. He's underperformed all year, but I like the improvement. His Richmond splits speak well for him - 4 top 10s, 2 top 5s, a pole and a win. This adds up to a nice sleeper run this week.

Kurt Busch - I thought he'd do well last week, but I'm not as high on him this week. Sure he's won at Richmond, but hasn't done too well otherwise. I'd look elsewhere (maybe his brother) this week.

Jamie McMurray - It'd be a gamble if you take him as he hasn't done well at Richmond, but he is on a hot streak with 4 top 10s in the last 5 weeks.

Stay away from Gilliland, even after his top 5 last week.

Group C:

This group is always a crapshoot, so you can't ever go wrong with one or two of Yeley, Stremme, Sorensen, Raines, or Jeff Green. However, I will recommend Jeremy Mayfield as a sleeper if he qualifies. Splits show him with 7 races, a win, 2 top 5s, 3 top 10s. Considering you probably won't race him any other time, this seems like a good week to do so. Just make sure you pair him with one of the above group in case he DNQs.

Hope this will boost some traffic as I love talking Fantasy NASCAR.

Fantasy Sports Survey

Dear Fantasy Sports User,

I am an avid fantasy sports player and I am asking for your assistance. For second this year I'm gonna take the Shrub. He's young, fast, fearless, sometimes clueless, and has a ton of support. Who would've thought 3 Hendrick teams make the chase and Kyle is the favorite among them? I think I'm gonna take JJ next. Even though they haven't ran well lately, I think starting Sunday they turn it up and in my opinion are a huge threat to win it all. Kenseth is gonna finish 4th. And with any slippage among the previously mentioned guys and Matt's gonna hoist his 2nd trophy. I believe that Jr. is gonna bring it home 5th. The team is much stronger than last and they cooperate so much better this season than last. As soon as the engine dept. gets caught up with the other teams (think Daytona '07) this will be an elite team also. On a side note, look for Jr. to play out his final year with DEI in '07 and possibly sign with RCR (who still owns the #3) and race the #3 Budweiser Monte Carlo in '07. Gordon will come in 6th in the chase this year. The team is solid but not on a consistent enought basis to win in to 10 event shootout. One mulligan is all any of these drivers are gonna get. 2 finishes of 30th or worst is going to kill their chances. Which leads us to the enigmatic Kahne, who will come home in 7th. He may win a race or even 2 during the chase but will also have a few poor finishes that will ultimately doom him. A month ago I would've taken Burton for at least a top 3 finish, but now Harvick seems to be getting all of the RCR love, aka horsepower, and the team seems to be hit an miss right now and that won't cut it in the final ten events. Hamlin 9th. I would pick him higher, and I really want to, but he's a rookie, and he's Stewart's teammate. Thats not really a good enough reason to pick him this far down, but it's the best I can do right now. Martin 10th, he's 150 years old and should've already won a title. And he would've if he had just grown a pair and driven more aggressively the past 20 years. It's just my opinion, but I'm sticking to it.

Nascar loves Stewart and JJ

In this new NASCAR age of safety first (All 20 lug nuts must be tight, the windshield cannot be dirty, PC rules, if there is mist the race must be postponed, hans devices, engine kill buttons, fuel cell bladders, the dreaded COT etc)why in yesterdays Dover event when Stewart can in to switch drivers and let Rudd the has been get in the car, why did we see officials peering into the car from all sides to make sure he was properly belted in and "safe" why why why was it OK for Tony to 1-put down his window net 2-remove his helmet 3-unbuckle himself from the seat, all before even entering pitroad? Don't tell me it was because the race was under caution. Remember what happened to Steve Park under caution? How about DJ nearly killing a driver under caution. If they are so concerned about safety, why could Tony put himself in such a vulnerable position and NASCAR turn their heads? And while I'm ranting, is anyone else sick of hearing Mike Joy pronounce pit road as pit rod? My God he sounds like Suzy Kolber trying team say any word with a long e-leeug or teum. I hate her and her stoned looking eyes. Screw boogity boogity boogity and come on NBC, maybe we can see a restart for a change and knowledgeable analysts for a change. I'd also like to see the track safety workers actually picking up a piece of debris when NASCAR conveinently throws a yellow to help their new baby JJ get a lap back, like they used to do for Gordon.

Jimmie Johnson Motor Speedway

If Jimmie Johnson wins this weekend, I'm never watching, or paying to go to another race in Charlotte again!

Atlanta: Rain Delayed.. Lets swap cell #'s and I'll try to catch up with you at the Kenseth trailer some time during the day - if we can work it out - things have a way of going crazy on race day but sure would like to at least try to catch up with you all. We usually throw in on an RV for the day with a few other couples and have a big throw down at the RV parking lot off speedway Blvd - that way we can party down and not have to do the driving thing after the race.Your both welcome to come hang out and grill/party on race day before and/or after the race - its a long day so if you need a place to hang out for awhile we got you covered. I also agree with Magoo ......I prefer short track racing - The "Rock" got screwed in the same way N.Wilksboro did. At the very least Rockingham should of been given a warm weather date - throw some lights up at the track and have a SAT night race in June or July and that place would be sold out like Richmond and Bristol.-------------------------David - Raleigh,NC Home of the Carolina Hurricanes Feed a homeless pet - http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com

RE: Booooooo! So I had it in my mind I would post something AFTER the Daytona 500. Well, that all went to shit when I was immediatly infuriated.. absolutely outraged by Tony Stewart's decision to punt Matt Kenseth into the wall for no apparent reason and more than ruin his chances of winning the Daytona 500. Matt was the car beat. Call me biased, but Matt was kicking ass and taking names. So, making a Tony Stewart voodoo doll took a bit longer than I had expected. But it was all part of my healing process and I think I'm over the horrible events of Nascar last week. I mean, not only did Matt get taken out of contention for no apparent reason, Chad Knaus was caught blatently cheating and was merely sent home for the weekend and suspended from 4 races. Big Deal. My blood pressure is rising again.. So, I'll just drop all of the crap from last week, take a deep breath and move on. Yay, California Speedway here I come. This is my home track and I am excited to be watching the race on TV. UGH.. can't make it to the cup race this time around, but I'll be at the track on Saturday meeting up with some of my fellow Matt Kenseth board mates. I've been a Rudd fan since 94 and a J.Burton fan for quite awhile also. Having Burton around has made Rudd's retirement somewhat easier for myself but the GF is lamenting Rudd abdsence more than I. She Likes Kurt and Kenseth because of the Fords but Kurt's move to a Dodge and the blue duece has been a hard pill to swallow. Pulling for that 2 car is tough being a Rudd fan. I kind of like Kurt - I think he is misunderstood in many ways and I do think he got jobbed by Jack Roush at Phoenix last year. I took a liking to Kurt and Matt when Jeff was at Roush with them. Along with those drivers this year I have decided to keep and eye on K.Petty - I don't expect miracles but I do think the Petty organization is turning the corner. I also have taken a liking to Burton's new teammate Clint Bowyer. The move to the RCR Chevy's was a tough one for me to adjust to but I have really started to warm to RCR since visiting the RCR shop and vineyards. Don't really care for Harvick but I will admit he has been a good teammate to Jeff.If either you or Beer Wench is interested ... Bowyer has a nice website with a message forum up and running for a little over a week now.http://www.clintbowyer.com/PS - Beerwench ... I'll look for you the next time I lurk Kenseth's forum.-------------------------David - Raleigh,NC Home of the Carolina Hurricanes Feed a homeless pet - http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com

RE: On to California Speedway

I don't like Kurt at all either. I live in Kansas City, so I'm thinking my new favorite should be from area (Bowyer, Edwards, McMurray) but I haven't decided which one yet.My racing roots are in sprint car racing, so I'm partial to guys like Stewart, Newman, Kahne, Blaney and JJ Yeley. Watch for Kraig Kinser in the next couple of years. If you follow sprint car racing at all, he's Steve Kinser's son and his talent is immense.
Email your Pigware questions/suggestions to support@rotopigs.com, or visit our forums at http://www.rotopigs.com/phpbb2/index.php

RE: On to California Speedway

Will you root for Kurt now, or do you have another driver to support? Kurt got the pole. That's pretty good. He's won Cali before - so he should be a front runner most of the day.~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~HOLY CRAP! I might actually dislike him more than Gordon. You knew Tony was going to get Kenseth back. Of all the drivers, he's the one most likely to retaliate, and doesn't really care if you know it's intentional or not. I'm only surprised he didn't find a way to punt Gordon for pinching into the wall early in the race.
Email your Pigware questions/suggestions to support@rotopigs.com, or visit our forums at http://www.rotopigs.com/phpbb2/index.php

RE: On to California Speedway

ha ha ha, that's pretty funny.I'm taking my kids along for the Busch race. They will enjoy it. Matt is racing the Busch race so I'll at least get to see him race in person. He does well at California, so I am optimistic for this weekend.~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~HOLY CRAP! Board get togethers can prove to be quite interesting.... met and made some life long friends off the Rudd and J.Burton boards. Met my GF at Richmond during a Rudd board get together - [:0]Kenseth got hosed last weekend... Stewart should of been penalized at least a lap for sending the 17 into the grass and back up the track into traffic. Instead Nascar penalizes the 17 and 5 for infractions that were considerable less than what Stewart did - it was like Stewart forgot to take his meds or something. No plates this weekend so we should get to see some real racing even if its not a short track. Roush drivers should fare well this weekend. Actually .... I'll be happy as long as its not someone from Broke Back Mountain Motorsports aka Hendrick racing who wins the race.-------------------------David - Raleigh,NC Home of the Carolina Hurricanes Feed a homeless pet - http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com

RE: TMR Fantasy Racing - year 2 ?

Dave you and Beerwench have mail.[:)]-------------------------David - Raleigh,NC Home of the Carolina Hurricanes Feed a homeless pet - http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com

TMR Fantasy Racing - year 2 ?

Yahoo has started sign ups for Fantasy Racing - its free Thanks for the heads up Pystos. I did a league for us last year and we had about a dozen or so join and about half of that actually finsh out the year. I honestly would not mind doing another league for us - and defend my title !! ...... but I would like to see how many are interested in doing it agian and/or see if we have enough new TMR members who would be willing to get in. I hoestly think we need a minimum of 12 but would love about 2x that. You only have to set your line up once a week - so its not a daily grind if thats a concern. Please post here if you would join a league hosted here at TMR .... if we can't get 12 - I'll find a league for those of us who are interested to join outside of TMRThanks-------------------------David - Raleigh,NC Home of the Carolina Hurricanes Feed a homeless pet - http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com

RE: TMR Fantasy Racing - year 2 ?

BeerWench and I are interesed again, David.
