Two weeks ago, he asked for my Koivu.
I asked for his benched Havlat in this deep roto keeper league
(16 teams x 30 players/roster).

We have 2 divisions of 8 teams, with relegation of 3 teams/division/year.
He's leading B Division handily, and I'm last in his division.
Needless to say, I'm playing for year after next.

I'm a rookie in an established Winnipeg league of what seems to consist of the usual hardcore of diehard poolies, and, for some reason, a surprising number of professional comedians, of which I'm not one. I'm a replacement for an owner ignominiously ejected, for suspected collusion I'm told -- should I worry? News at eleven.

9 strategories:
Forwards - G, A, +/-, PIM;
D-men - G, A, PIM;
Goalies - GAA, "Points" (3xW + 1xT + 2xSO).

He responded to my Havlat request with:
his Ladd, Olesz and Grebeshkov, 3 for 1
-for-
my Koivu.

I countered with:
my Koivu PLUS my unkeepable (contract-wise) Kalinin PLUS his choice of Sarich or (like Ladd and Grebeshkov, a cheap-salary sleeper) Pothier
-for-
his Havlat+Ladd+Grebeshkov.

Am I nuts?

Thanks for reading this far,
Steffen

i like your most recent counter for you. in your situation you're definitely wise to go after guys like Havlat. the deal doesnt seem too unfair. i hope you get what you want.
adding Ladd and Havlat would be coups for you.

He came back with a shopping list that included most of my team.

I countered with:
my Koivu, Hemsky (keepable for only one more year), Kalinin (unkeepable), and a draft pick swap in his favour
-for-
his Havlat, Ladd (cheap), Grebeshkov (cheap).

It may look in his favour, but 1.5 years from now it would be just Koivu for the 3 I would get.

I'm collecting cheap young long-term keepers, and I figure to spend heavily on key players during the auctions.

He took this deal. I think we're both happy.

for a guy shopping longer term and a guy trying to win this year i think this deal is very nice for both of you. he gets the help he needs now and loses deadwood who wont help him win now while you get some building blocks to lead your team a better direction for the next couple years. good job.
