Great, good to have you aboard.

Though my pessimism grows. 6 hours of meetings yesterday, and no progress.

Meanwhile, Joe Thornton gets $6.7 million in arbitration.

Anybody know where I can get Swedish Elite League box scores?

Welcome aboard xm! Yeah, the B's got lucky with the arbitration ruling on Thornton. Now if we can only get the players to agree to a salary cap... I actually applied for a sales position with the B's today. It probably won't pay me enough to leave my current job, but it's worth a shot...

I think there are quite a few hockey fans that will come out of the woodwork once games are played. I am a hockey fan first and a baseball fan second, the two seasons just fit together perfectly. I am Commish in a couple of hockey leagues and I definitely know the game. I look forward to seeing some posts coming in and I am confident that Pete will make sure that there will be some entertaining hockey columnists on the site.

As a side note, who do you guys think will win the World Cup? I liked Canada initially but their Defense is looking rather porous now. I still think they will pull out a win but it is going to be difficult to get past the US and Sweden.

I like Sweden for the World Cup, imagine a line of Sundin, Forsberg and Alfredsson. Sweet lord almighty...

Well, OTW, one doesn't have to work too hard to imagine it. They've had that line in the Olympics twice now, and while it was good...

I don't see Sweden's goaltending being enough, and no matter how open the games will be, goaltending wins. Canada's Salt Lake victory was all goaltending, forcing the Americans to get desperate and open up. The Dominator was the difference in Nagano, and Richter was the key in '96.

I don't think we've ever seen such a goaltending edge for Canada. The Dominator's not there, Richter's gone, Khabibulin isn't playing...

Really, the one goalie I'm worried about is Kiprusoff. Salo, Esche Checkmanek and whoever the Russians and Slovaks throw in there just aren't in the same class.
