Hey Folks,

I just made a trade in my work fantasy hockey pool, the same one Ian, our forum moderator is in and leading (I think?).  I unfortunately have had the honor of being between 5th and 9th all year to date (16 teams) and I have had Crosby on my roster the whole time.  I'd like to know what the rest of the poolies think.

Here was my roster on Jan 13 2007.

RW - Hossa, Vrbata, Radulov

C - Crosby, Lombardi, Steen, Jeff Carter

LW - Kovalchuk, Ponikovrosky, Lehtinen

D - Boyle, O'Brien, Visnovsky, D. Keith, Paul Martin

G - Denis (whom I hate), Raycroft and Turco

Well I eventually got sick of being in the middle and decided to trade my no#1 guy, Sid the Kid for some additional offence as it was not looking like I would move up at all.  I was a bit hasty as I put out several offers at once (impatience is not a virtue!) and got a response from the guy who was option D.  I did not want to cancel the trade as it would be in bad taste but I am feelin' a bit of regret that I let the kid go (hindsight bias is 20/20) but I was desperate for a shake up.

Anyways the trade ended up being me trading Crosby and Vrbata for Vanek and Justin Williams.  My reasoning is 2 top 40 players is better than the no#1 guy for half a season thats left.

After a few other trades and waiver pick-ups my team looks like this:

RW -  Hossa, Justin Williams, Lehtinen

C - Koivu, Lombardi, Stumpel, J. Staal

LW- Vanek, Kovalchuk, Poni

D - M. Carle, Boyle, Bouwmeester,Visnovsky, O'Brien

G - Raycroft, Denis (I still hate him) and Turco

So far I am in 8th place...any opnions on the Trade that sent the KID packing?  I am missing him already

PS Ian you're not allowed to comment

Side note :  The guy I traded Crosby to immediately flipped him around for Bill Guerin and Thomas Holmstrom...go figure....

Crosby & Vrbata for Vanek & Williams?

Crosby for Holmstrom & Guerin???

sounds like bizarro world!

To be more clear I didn't like the original deal at all.. I think you needed to address your goaltending issues having to roster Raycroft and Denis is frightening!

It's not a good idea to send out all your offers at the same time, because obviously you had a preference, and when the #1 player in the game is involved you should make sure you get MAXIMAL value in return.

I realize the desperation to rush a deal and hence to send out multiple offers to multiple league mates, but with the All Star Break about a week away from when you dealt Crosby you would have had a week of to talk trades and go down your pecking order.

Overall it seems you have traded the best point producer in the game for two players who have decelerated their production as the season has progressed... you could have done better
