| Before you start throwing rotten fruit, let me explain. This wasn't like the other drafts I was in, this one got interesting after pick one, when the first place guy said "Pujols for the win" and plucked him. Then Soriano went, then Howard, then A-Rod. Then, like a double tap through my Roto heart, Reyes and Crawford went next.
I responded the way anyone with a brain built for roto would, with a loud 'MOTHER****ER!!!'. Then I pondered the only four guys I truly considered first round picks. Utley, Ortiz, Hafner and Santana. I like all these guys, but to me Chase isn't a team maker and I'm not sold on Hafner of Ortiz powering my team to a championship. So I picked the guy head and shoulders above the rest to me, and went with Santana. Right after that, Utley, Ortiz, Hafner, Guerero, Cabrera and Berkman went off the board, much to my disgust. I thought I had an outside shot at one of those guys, so i had to settle for Holliday in the second round, clearly the best guy on the board at that point. Then, Boom, the important guys started to disappear. Beltran, Jones, Ramirez, Tejada, Sizemore, Wright, Carpenter, Jete, Lee, Mauer, Suzuki and Morneau. At this point I realized, these guys actually know what they are doing. I wasn't going to get steals easy, they knew who the good players were and leftovers were not going to be had. But nobody seemed to be drafting pitching. So.... this draft resulted. | Pick | Player | Position | | Rnd 1 | J. Santana | SP | | Rnd 2 | M. Holliday | OF | | Rnd 3 | R. Oswalt | SP | | Rnd 4 | C. Zambrano | SP | | Rnd 5 | Dice-K | SP | | Rnd 6 | B.J. Ryan | RP | | Rnd 7 | J.J. Putz | RP | | Rnd 8 | C. Guillen | SS | | Rnd 9 | T. Saito | RP | | Rnd 10 | R. Sexson | 1B | | Rnd 11 | T. Helton | 1B | | Rnd 12 | E. Byrnes | OF | | Rnd 13 | K. Johjima | C | | Rnd 14 | R. Ibanez | OF | | Rnd 15 | E. Gagne | RP | | Rnd 16 | F. Sanchez | 3B | | Rnd 17 | J. Barfield | 2B | | Rnd 18 | D. Roberts | OF | | Rnd 19 | J. Gomes | OF | | Rnd 20 | M. Ensberg | 3B |
So I can definitely say I went the road less taken here. What do you guys think of this monstrosity? And then I realized the awful truth, I was drafting with guys that actually knew what they were doing. The Horror!

Well, you don't mention Rollins among the players taken, why didn't you take him in round 3? You know you are going to kill in the pitching catagories. You are weak in steals, and might have a batting average problem. Is this a roto or H2H league? If it is a roto league you are good, if it is H2H you have a problem as you can only have "7" starts each week.

| Honestly, not a big fan of Rollins. he's a good ballplayer, but his average hangs around .275-.280 usually and I needed better than that from a round three pick. Besides, I got Guillen laaaate in the draft so I don't feel that worried about that position. Now as Good as I feel about Guillen, I can't believe I saddled myself with Freddy Sanchez. Yeessh. I really think the whole power pitching draft came about because I did a recap of my drafts thus far and slapped them all into a spreadsheet. The results showed me a couple of things.... For one thing, in Eight drafts, I managed to draft Carl Crawford six times. Ditto with Brian McCann. I also have Josh Barfield 7 times. I'm a believer in speed kills, and I appreciate good players with positional scarcity, but this was looking a little ridiculous. Now as for the league, it is head to head, but I really don't have a lot of concerns about that. I'm going to average 5-7 starts every week and my four closers are going to vulture me wins as well as saves, K's and maintain a good whip. So long as my hitters can sneak in a category or two, I'll be fine. I guess there really isn't anything wrong with this draft except that it's going to require dilligence. I'll need to swap people in and out all the time, keep an eye on the waiver wire and work it like crazy. I'll keep you guys posted on whether or not this team amounts to anything. Spugs
