| Thanks telestar for the Halladay response. (http://www.talentedmrroto.com/forum/Topic328116-26-1.aspx) These veterens with proven track records who nonetheless struggle badly can be challenging to say the least. Here's another. Barry Zito. It was said on the Fox GOTW Saturday that his velocity is down and that the Giants should be 'very worried' about the sizeable investment they've made in this guy. Seemed a little dire to me. He has pitched some brilliant games so far, and historically is better in the second half. Boche has given him about 8 days off between starts here, probably just figuring he needed a blow. What do people here think? Does this guy have some miles left? He was just dropped in my league and I'm trying to decide if I should roll the dice.

Everybody knew the Giants made a mistake in signing this guy long-term. He still walks too many and is inefficient on the mound. With his velocity down, he'll just end up striking even fewer guys out which won't help him get out of near as many jams.
I was down on him starting sometime last year and I'm sticking by it.

I have never been a big Zito fan, he does not get enough K's for my liking. I also do not know where you are getting that he is a better second half player. Over the previous three seasons his ERA, oppenents batting average have been higher after the break and his K rate has actually declined. Coming into the season I saw him at best as an average fantasy starter, and he has not been even that good so far, I also do not expect any improvement in the second half.

| Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. I was going on Zito's all-time stats, not just the last three years. All-time he's had 132 pre-All-Star game starts and his Win/Loss there is 49-45. In 108 post-All-Star game starts, he's 59-27. ERA? 3.96 vs. 3.26. WHIP: 1.31 vs. 1.21. BAA: .244 vs. .221. Compelling stuff if you're asking me, especially since it has the last three years factored into it. And remember: Pitching coach Rick Peterson left the A's after 2003 for the Mets, and these are the precisely the three years we're discussing. He may have suffered as a result; I remember Peterson getting a lot of credit for the rise of the Hudson-Mulder-Zito trio by the bay. We'll see. This game is wildly unpredictable. My fear is you guys are right, but I have a hunch..............................
