Need you help guys on this deal and figure out implications and if its worth it and if I will give him 1st on this. I am only a few points ahead!

Here goes:

I am in 1st place. Guy in 2nd place moving up fast wants some steals and rbis. He is loaded at pitching too(Bedard, oswalt, Gallardo, Young, webb, garza, petite). He is offering up Markakis, F.Sanchez and Webb for my B. phillips and Blake. Don't know where to play markakis when sheff comes back worth the hit at 2nd base in HRs and SB?

I need pitching as i am in a dogfight for some pitching categories to maintain and not lose. Is the phillips downgrade to sanchez worth it for Webb and upgrade from Blake to Markakis? Who would you start after this deal?

Here is my team.

C-Piazza , 1st-Tex, 2nd-Phillips, SS-Reyes, 3r-Aram, IF-A. Gonzalez, OF - Hawpe, Abreu, Del.Young, Util- Thome                                                                          Bench Sheffield(Would be starting in the OF or IF spot), Teahen, Blake, DL Hamilton

Pitching SP-Peavy, Escobar, Bonderman, Bush, C,James, W.Rodriguez,Bannister       RP- T. Jones, Accardo, Broxton, Neshek, Rauch                                                    DL-Burnett, Guardado

Categories R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OBP, SLG, W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, K/BB, K/9

do I make this deal?

My team era is 3.68 Someone behind me has 3.7 and 3.83. Guy ahead has 3.61.

K/BB 2.66 for me and guys ahead are at 2.67 and 2.7 Behind me is 2.5

Whip and k/9 have kinda become negligible, I could probably lose one more pt in whip and one more in k/9

I lead 2nd place guy by 37 runs, 67rbis, another guy is 8sb right behind me and 2nd place team is .002 behind in Avg though. Hard decision!

I agree - tough call. I am always careful in dealing with the major competitor for the title, as you can help yourself but help him more. That said, I like the idea of you acquiring Webb. The downgrade from Phillips to Sanchez is pretty severe, but I suppose getting Webb makes up for that. What would it cost to get Webb w/o Markakis and Sanchez? Perhaps the second baseman off waivers is almost as good as Sanchez? I hate to see you acquiring an asset (Markakis) that you might not need. Does this owner have an IP or games started limit he is running up against? If so, you should play harder for one of his SPs. If he won't talk about Webb straight up, then ask what the price would be for Bedard, Oswalt, and especially Chris Young. I think Young comes back in good shape and can help your pitching stats - and he might come at a much cheaper price given his situation.

So sorry for the rambling - I think I'd recommend declining this offer but working the deal more to see if you can get it more in your favor. Don't do an even swap with your main rival.

The 2nd base waiver options are weeks, felipe lopez, belliard and brendan harris(he's probably the best bet).  It is an even swap with my biggest competitor. I think oswalt, webb and young are interchangeable - all are aces. He values them all highly. he just has a plethora of SP. Not over the IP either. he would also like a 3rd baseman in Aramis for webb in a deal. But i think giving up phillips is easier? Maybe im wrong b/c he plays 2nd and a harder position. Worse downgrade from Aramis to Teahen/Blake or Phillips to lopez/harris?  Please help. Thanks!

I'd rather do the ARam deal myself. I think the downgrade is less severe to Teahan. Also, ARam has had a little bit of a sore knee. It is probably nothing, but if he had to lose a few games due to the issue, that would make this more in your favor. And I agree - if he values Oswalt, Young and Webb all equally - go for Webb.
