It’s pretty easy to learn how this game is played however it’s a different story when it comes to conquering your competitors and winning the championship.

Being a rookie in fantasy football though does not mean that you are bound to fail. Below are easy step-by-step guides in understanding how this game works.

  1. You Join A League

The first step in playing fantasy football is joining a league. While others are playing for money, beginners like you should play for fun. There are 2 ways for you to join a league: public league where anyone can sign up for a spot and private league where an invitation is required to play.

No matter which league you join, make sure that you have a clear understanding of how it works and its rules. Don’t take league selection lightly as it is an important factor in the fantasy football.

  1. Scout Players for your Draft

The selection of your fantasy team can take you to high places. Before making your final pick, make sure that you do your research first. Read all relevant information about the current NFL news and who’s doing a good performance. Once you have your picks, pre-rank them according to your personal preference. Having a full grasp of your team’s scoring system and roster setup is a critical factor in creating a winning draft strategy.

  1. Build Your Fantasy Football Team Using the Draft

Probably one of the most exciting and fun day in the fantasy season is the draft. During the draft, you choose your NFL player at a time until your rosters are complete. Though most of the drafts take place online, some leagues – typically co-workers or friends – are conducted in person. Remember to draft all of the correct positions, so that you can have a full team roster.

  1. Your team competes against another team every week.

The real NFL team competes against each other during the season and so do the fantasy teams in your league. The real-time stats of the players are then converted into fantasy points by your league provider. The winner of the week is the fantasy team that has the most points. The goal is to win as many games as possible to make the playoffs.

  1. You make moves to improve your team.

You are in total control of your fantasy game. You can remove the players that you think are not doing well and replace them with free agents. You can bench an injured player and replace him with a fresh pick as well. You can even make a trade offer to another owner.

  1. You hope that your team makes the playoffs and wins the league

At the end of the fantasy season, the top teams face each other in a single elimination tournament to decide who wins the championship. The last team standing wins a trophy and a cash prize.
